I just don’t understand this world that we live in. It leaves me aghast when I hear certain news. This world has truly lost its way and the people in power have lost all sense of priority. Insanity is no longer a term that can be used. Humans have crossed the limits that once were bound within the definition of insanity.

Get this : South Africa bars The Dalai Lama from a Peace Conference.

Think about this. Isn’t that ironic? Barring The Dalai Lama to please China while hosting a peace conference…What an idea! [More on this issue here]

Many Nobel Laureates withdrew from the conference after this news broke out. Makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it? It has obviously stirred major controversy world-wide. And why wouldn’t it? Any person would be compelled to think about what is really going on.

Bringing it closer to home, Indian Premier League, the festival of Cricket, is in the talks for being shifted to South Africa because it clashes with the general elections in India.

Am I the only one who thinks this is stupidity? Is IPL more important than the elections in India? Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely LOVE cricket. I do, with all my heart. But I truly dislike IPL. Who do the sponsors and owners think they are? Even the cricketers are saying nothing about it. Most of the players are going to be Indian. Don’t they think it is necessary to be in the country and vote and make your voice heard in these times of so much uncertainty and insecurity?

Is an international Peace conference complete without The Dalai Lama?

Is a sport more important than the country?

Is any government, any minister serving ‘the people’?

My day has been full of questions. I cannot stop mulling over these issues. I realise I am just one of the billions of people on this planet who is trying so hard to make the issues heard.

Is anyone listening? Anybody??

    They Say that bad publicity is better than no publicity and I see South Africa quite popular in the news today.I don’t really have an opinion on the Dalai Lama, but this is the official reason:“The Tibetan spiritual leader and Nobel Laureate did not receive a visa because it was not in South Africa’s interest for him to attend, said Thabo Masebe.South Africa thinks that, if the Dalai Lama attended the conference, the focus would shift away from the 2010 World Cup — the global soccer championship it will host next year.“We cannot allow focus to shift to China and Tibet,” Masebe said, adding that South Africa has gained much from its trading relationship with China”Although it is believed that it is just because they are appeasing China, so SA needs to get their act together or they will start becoming unpopular again and this is not what we need. There are so many things that have been frustrating about the national government, and for once the world gets to experience their obscure decision making.And in IPL news, South africa has the capabilities to host it successfully, but my concern are the ticket sales and public interest. I don’t think most of the pool games will be sold out, because South African’s aren’t really interested in seeing a team predominantly filled with young indian domestic players since there is a restriction (i think 4) on the the number of international players that can be fielded per match- plus dew is a factor at most stadiums so I don’t know how it can work out. But to get the buzz and excitement here will be something to experience. Especially if they play in Durban and a few Bollywood stars make an appearance.Will have to see what happens in both cases…

    I am a big fan of Dalai Lama and his ideology and so its surprising that the country of Desmond Tutu (who incidentally is Dalai Lama’s friend) is barring him to attend a peace conference. As far as IPL is concerned, I can understand Govt’s objection to holding it during election time. India’s election is no joke with 700+ million people eligible to vote and if something untoward happens, who will take responsibility for that? Mr. Lalit Modi will be the first one hiding if that happens. I don’t mind it if it moves to S. Africa as millions of dollars are riding on it.

    @ Jeremy and Ricky : As it stands right now, the peace conference has been postponed. Good thing. They need to think over anyway. And it is also finalized that the IPL will be held in SAfrica. I am not concerned about where it is held really. That’s not my problem. My problem is what the IPL management thinks. Apparently, the image they are portraying is that the IPL is bigger than India itself. Why else would they not postpone the IPL until after the elections? I know the IPL are running after the money like hungry hounds and that is what disgusts me. Its always about the money with Indian Cricket Board…arrgghh!

    There was only two choices for IPL team, either not have it this year or move it outside. They cannot have it after elections as no one will be available to play as there is a 20-20 World Cup in England.
